West Midlands Police rolls out double range taser
As of February 2026, West Midlands Police (WMP) has become one of the first UK forces to roll out the Axon Taser 10 (T10) . This new device is described as having "double the range" of the previous models it replaces. Key Specifications of the Taser 10
Extended Range: The T10 has an optimum range of up to 45 feet (13.7 metres), which is double the distance of the ageing X2 model. Increased Capacity: It can fire up to 10 single-shot cartridges without reloading, a significant upgrade from the two-shot capacity of the previous X2 model. Precision and Safety: The device allows officers to fire individual probes more accurately and manage threats from a safer distance, facilitating better de-escalation. Enhanced Data: According to the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, the T10 provides more data than ever before, supporting greater transparency and oversight. Implementation Details Deployment: Specialized training for the rollout began at the Tally Ho! Tactical Training Centre on 2 February 2026. Approval: Use of the was granted by the Home Secretary in October 2025 following rigorous testing. Integration: When an officer draws the T10 , their body-worn video camera automatically activates to ensure a clear record of the incident. The introduction of this technology is part of a broader effort to modernize the force's equipment and improve safety for both officers and the public during high-stress encounters. | ||
